Golf course fly-through videos for clubs in Scotland

FLYTHRU gives Scottish golf clubs a cinematic fly-through of every hole, embedded on the club's own website beside the tee-booking link. Each hole flies from tee to green, then slowly orbits the green. Most holes are built from Google Photorealistic 3D Tiles, so there is no drone and no site visit, and most clubs are live within a week.

What is a golf course flyover video for a Scottish club?

A golf course flyover video is a short aerial flight down a hole, from the tee to the green, showing the shape of the fairway, the hazards and the approach. For a Scottish club it lets a golfer read a links dog-leg, a burn crossing or a moorland carry before they ever reach the first tee.

FLYTHRU renders each hole as a smooth tee-to-green flight followed by a slow orbit of the green, so visitors see both the line of play and the putting surface. The result is a hole-by-hole tour that sits on the club's own website rather than on a third-party platform.

Scotland's courses reward local knowledge more than most. Blind tee shots over dunes, pot bunkers hidden from the fairway and greens that run away towards the sea are exactly what a fly-through helps a first-time visitor understand.

How much does a golf course fly-through cost in Scotland?

Member-owned and community clubs in Scotland can start on the Community Fly-through at £29 a month with no setup fee. Proprietary, resort and tournament venues use the Commercial track, starting with the Club plan at £995 setup and £99 a month. All prices are shown in pounds sterling.

Every plan is monthly rolling, with no exit fee, and you can cancel at any time. The club keeps its footage forever, even if it cancels. Annual plans give two months free.

Championship is priced on application, from £4,995 setup, and adds drone capture at the course alongside quarterly re-flights.

  • Community Fly-through: £29 a month, no setup fee
  • Community + New Website: £195 setup, then £59 a month
  • Club: £995 setup, then £99 a month
  • Club + Web Takeover: £1,495 setup, then £149 a month
  • Championship: priced on application, from £4,995 setup

How long does it take to film a Scottish golf course?

On most plans there is no filming at all. FLYTHRU builds each hole from Google Photorealistic 3D Tiles, so nobody needs to visit the course or fly a drone over the members. Once the course is mapped, most clubs are live within a week. Only Championship plans include a drone capture day on site.

Because the work is done remotely from Dundee, the Scottish weather does not hold the project up. There is no waiting for a calm, clear day on an exposed links or a Highland hillside.

Going live is simple: the club adds one line of script to its website. There is no rebuild and no plugins, and the fly-through appears next to the existing tee-booking link.

Do you need a drone permit to film a golf course in Scotland?

Drone flying in Scotland is regulated by the UK Civil Aviation Authority. Camera drone operators generally need an Operator ID, pilots need a Flyer ID from the CAA online test, and commercial work near people commonly needs an A2 Certificate of Competency or a Specific category authorisation. Most FLYTHRU plans need no drone at all.

Anyone flying over a course also needs the landowner's permission, which in practice means the club, for take-off and landing. Flight restriction zones around airports apply too, and several Scottish courses sit close to airfields.

Rules change, so clubs should always check the current CAA guidance before agreeing to any drone filming. For most clubs the question never arises, because FLYTHRU builds the fly-through from 3D Tiles without a drone in the air.

How do Scottish clubs use fly-throughs to sell memberships and tee times?

Scottish clubs place the fly-through beside the tee-booking link so a visitor can watch a hole and book in the same moment. Through FLYTHRU's links with BRS Golf and intelligentgolf, golfers click straight through to the tee sheet. For memberships, the tour shows prospective members the course they would play every week.

The Caddie, a website chatbot, answers visitor questions about the course while they browse. Each month the club receives a results email showing how many times the course flew and which holes drew the most views, which helps the committee see what visitors care about.

In the clubhouse, Clubhouse mode runs a 16:9 auto-cycling loop on the screen in the bar or foyer, and the tee plaque QR programme lets golfers scan a plaque on each tee to fly that hole before they hit.

How do fly-throughs help golfers planning a trip to Scotland from abroad?

Golfers travelling to Scotland often plan a trip around several courses months in advance, deciding where to play from their own homes. A hole-by-hole tour on the club's website lets them see the course properly, compare it with others and book a tee time without needing to visit first or phone the office.

Many overseas visitors start with the famous names. Our St Andrews Old Course hole-by-hole showcase shows how a full tour works in practice; it is an independent showcase and is not affiliated with the R&A or St Andrews Links Trust.

A clear tour can encourage a touring group to add a less familiar club to its itinerary once they can see what the course offers.

Is there an option for member-owned clubs in Scotland?

Yes. Many Scottish clubs are member-owned, so FLYTHRU runs a Community track for them. The Community Fly-through costs £29 a month with no setup fee, and Community + New Website adds a fresh club website. Both are monthly rolling, so a committee can try it without a long commitment.

Committees can see a working example on our free Sample Links demo, a fictional course built to show the format. On a demo call we will fly the club's own opening hole free, which gives the committee something real to discuss at its next meeting.
